Five Lessons from a five year old

Lets be frank, we spend our days teaching our kids, but never acknowledge what they have taught us. And boy do they teach us a lot. To name a few; patience, multitasking, how to handle sleep deprivation, and the list goes on and on. Today I'm going to share some of the best things they have taught me.

1. Honesty can be cruel. Oh honesty, keeping it real, or 100, what ever catchy fraze it is these days. Your kids are probably the only people really being honest. They will tell you your breath stinks, and that your beautiful in the same sentence. They wont sugar coat it, or worry about hurting your feelings. Nor do they have any intention to offend you. As we get older, that all shifts. Being honest becomes, being polite, and sometimes, we let our dear friends make poor choices, because why should I embarrass her, and tell her she has spinach in her teeth or that she needs gum.

2.Being yourself. Kids aren't concerned with the latest trend, they dont care that a shirt is from target or designer. No, they like things just because their favorite super heroes on it, or it makes them feel like a pretty princess. If I let my girls dressed themselves, I'm sure they would be rocking their princess gowns, and miss matching shoes. They would own every moment of it. They aren't concerned with what the other kids will think, because they know their bad ass. So why do we second guess our clothing selection, or feel we need to dress "appropriate". Be yourself. If you love mismatching print, vintage tees or wearing all black, own it. Forget fitting in, or what others may say.

3. Say NO with no explanation. Adulthood means, I get to do what I want when I want. Right? Well sorta, I guess . . . but mostly not really. The girls where playing and running around the house. I asked them to stop as I so often do, when Lilly shot back no, and went on her marry way. What do you mean no? No response, so I say it again. "I don't want to." That simple.  Why do we so often get pressured in to doing things we don't want to, or worst, having to explain why. No is sufficient. No no no no no, I swear its my kids favorite word. No I don't want to do a play date, or attend this event, or work late. NO

4.Making friends. Pushing the cart thru target when across the way Kiki spots a toddler. Mom go that way I want to say hi. Oh you now each other from school no but he's my friend. she walked right up and started a conversation, she had never met this child and was talking and laughing the way old friends do. Just like that, I don't know about you I don't spot random strangers and just start chatting. But why not  you cant make friends if you don't put yourself out there. Kids have no worries of rejection but as adults that all shifts. when did we get so lame lol.

5. Forgiveness. Oh this one by far is my favorite with two little humans at home. Some serious fights break out between siblings, I mean hair pulling, karate kid fights, etc. Moments later, they are cuddling and laughing like it never happened. All is forgotten. They forgive with such ease and hold no hard feelings.

Im sure I can list a million and one things my little people have taught me. Everyday with them, is a new adventure, and a new lesson to be learned. They wont always be this honest, this fearless, and bold. Embrace there uniqueness. Let them become their own people. Dont teach them that they need to fit in. That they should be something other than who they are. Mostly learn what they are teaching you.

Weekend round up

With Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day, a few days apart, it has been super festive around these parts. My dear friend came in from Connecticut and we got to catch up and grab some tacos to celebrate, because tacos are our favorite.

We hit Disney Springs for a early Mother's Day dinner, at the girls favorite spot. Rex, a dinosaur-themed restaurant, which is just about the only place we can have a nice dinner, since my children clearly have ants in their pants, and don't sit still.

Oh yea, because life isn't crazy enough with two toddlers and a cat, we added this little guy to the crew. Otis 2.0 lol

Wishing all you lovely ladies a Happy Mother's Day. Here is to the most rewarding job. This is what its all about.

30 before 30

With Carlos just turning 30 last week, I began to think a lot about ending my 20s. They were some wild years, to say the least. The thing about time, is that it passes by much to quickly, and if your not paying attention you may have missed it. Life has no pause button, and it wont wait for you. So what goals have you set? Here are my 30 before 30. I've checked of a few more coming on that.

1. Sky dive. That's right go big or go home. Lol
2. Start a Blog, and be consistent. This one needs some work.
3. Run a 5k.
4. Go camping (like for real. Sleep on the ground, build a fire, the works).
5. Take a cooking class.
6. Get a new tattoo. I love tattoos but am scared of needles... see the problem. Its not like I don't have any, but I tend to punk out every time I find something I love.
7. Dance in the rain.
8. Learn to dance salsa
9. Take a road trip.
10. Swim with dolphins
11. Take a picture every day, for 30 days.
12. Get and stay healthy
13. Get a bold hair style.
14. Visit a state ive never been.
15. Write more often.
16. Pay it forward. Give back more often.
17. Print photos.
18. Have a real picnic, basket and all.
19. Buy a home
20. Treat myself to something ultra fancy.
21. Unplug one day a week.

24. Do a head stand.
25. Read one book a month.
26. Chase a dream
27. Forgive and Forget. Life's to short to be holding on to grudges.
28. Take a girls trip.
29. Plan a daycation.
30. Write a list of 40 before I'm 40.

Life Via the Camera Roll

We are finally getting back after our road trip, which was especially crazy with a 17 hour drive and little humans. It is no joke. Over all, it went pretty well. We had a chance to visit friends and family. Late dessert date with the family. Sipped cappuccinos with some yummy pastries.

This girl is fearless. She had the best time.

That smile always gets me.

We also had a chance to check out a few museums. The American Museum of Natural History and the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

Holiday part 3

This is my favorite time of year, with an early December birthday and fun Xmas festivities, how can a girl resist. This year we went with an unconventional tree. Skipping the leafy greens for this piece. I'm loving how festive it is while bringing in our unique style. Obsessed with woodland theme.

Let the hot chocolate, and carols begin. Hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving..

Holiday part 2

Well it's that time of year, where crafting gets kicked into high gear. I've been working on a non-traditional tree, just to switch it up. That's coming in the next few weeks, and I can't wait. But for now, here is our chalk tree.  Keeping it simple. Let's face it, I'm surprised I got this much on the chalk board with out being attacked by the girls. They love chalk art, but never let me complete a piece - mommy problems.

Using our other chalkboard, I created a holiday Card Holder. You can do this in under five minutes. Using some yarn, clothes pins, and ornaments. I can't wait to see all the adorable holiday cards.

So what holiday projects are you working on?!?

HOLIDAY TIPS

With Holiday season in full affect, here are some of my stay stress-free tips. Getting organized is a no-brainier, but most people fail to plan. Keep a calendar, set a budget (stick to it). Not happening? Make a list, check it twice. Where did that list go?!? Great lost the list. So many people have less than Merry Christmas'. I'm a planner, does that mean I don't get stressed? Not at all. It just means I have a plan, and my plan has a back up plan.

So here are some tips and things to keep in mind:
Make a detailed list with who and what to buy. If you don't know what to purchase get a gift card. "Oh there in-personal", so is getting the wrong gift. Gift cards ensure that they get something they will enjoy, and cuts shopping time.  Start shopping asap. Last minute shopping is hectic.
Don't attend every party your invited too. Between work parties, family, and friends, it can get overwhelming. Remember it's a party, if your not having a good time, then your at a meeting that's not mandatory.
Stop comparing. Social Media  will have you thinking that the rest of the world has this Holiday thing in the bag. With gorgeous holiday cards, fresher baked cookies, and that list checked off twice.
Here are some of last years pics

Remember to have a Holly Jolly Christmas.
